South Central PA
Highway Safety (SCPAHS) now offers the
AARP Driver Safety Program, as well as the
CarFit Program.
The AARP Driver Safety Program involves a course that will teach mature drivers how
to be safe on the road.
Course
participants can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive
driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in
today's increasingly challenging driving environment. You'll learn
adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision,
hearing, and reaction time. For more information,
visit
www.aarp.org.
The CarFit Program is designed to help older drivers find out how
well they currently fit their personal vehicle, to highlight actions
they can take to improve their fit, and to promote conversations about
driver safety and community mobility. A proper fit in one's personal
vehicle can greatly increase not only the driver's safety but also the
safety of others. At a CarFit check, trained technicians “fit” the car
to the mature driver in order to increase comfort and safety. This
sometimes includes properly adjusting the car mirrors or seats. For
more information on CarFit, visit
www.car-fit.org.
SCPAHS
has trained professionals that coordinate both AARP Driver Safety and
CarFit programs. For more information on the programs or to coordinate
courses or events, call the ATSPA offices at
