C2H5OH, Dying to Be the Life of the Party
What
is C2H5OH, Dying to Be the Life of the Party
C2H5OH, Dying to Be the Life of the Party consists of a video and facilitator guide. The video is a 30-minute
presentation divided into three parts, including: 1) a female college
student having fun on a night of goal-oriented drinking (drinking to get
drunk) until tragedy strikes; 2) interviews with medical professionals
about the effects of excessive alcohol consumption and acute alcohol
poisoning; and 3) an interview with a mother whose son died of acute
alcohol poisoning during a fraternity initiation.
What are the program objectives?
The program objectives
include: 1) educating students about the risks associated with binge
drinking; 2) providing information on the signs and symptoms of acute
alcohol poisoning; and 3) teaching students how to respond appropriately.

How does the program work?
While the video itself is
powerful enough to stand alone, the program also includes a facilitator guide which includes more background information and questions to
stimulate discussion. It is also recommended that students be given
supplemental materials available from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control
Board. This includes a wallet card called Goodnight or Goodbye,
which summarizes the symptoms of acute alcohol poisoning and tells the
student what to do if they suspect they have encountered someone in this
situation.
